Carpenter 

Functional Summary

Reporting to Carpentry Supervisor, the carpenter builds and sets up formwork for the production side of the plant. The carpenter works from shop drawings supplied by the engineering department to build forms, form parts and locators for inserts and hardware for the individual form decks. Making and installing any architectural features in the form as required. Work must be done to meet specific tolerances set by PCI.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Carpenter include, but are not limited to:

Equipment/Tool Operation

  • Using measuring equipment: tape measure, squares, straight edges
  • Operating stationary equipment: band saws, table saws, radial arm saw, planer, miter saw.
  • Battery powered equipment: drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, “Sawzall”
  • Pneumatic equipment: nail and staple guns, palm sander, impact wrenches
  • Proper use of glues and resins for making and repairing forms and form parts
  • Using electric tools: mixers for chemicals, resins and rubbers
  • Operate equipment on company property, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the equipment
  • Perform duties safe and efficiently
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics
  • Must examine situations with consideration to the principles of the Code of Ethics

Safety

  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
  • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections
  • Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.

Teamwork

  • Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required
  • Duties are performed generally as part of a crew that should function as one unit.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required
  • If assigned to another crew, the physical demands are similar and proper operation will be followed

 

Qualifications

Education, Training and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • CT Driver’s License
  • OSHA 10

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience within the construction industry
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience operating a diverse range of construction tools / equipment is required

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of power tool and equipment operation
  • Knowledge construction materials, construction processes and industry requirements

Working Conditions

  • Overtime as required
  • Work is performed in an indoor setting, which could include heat and humidity
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis
  • Walking several miles per day and standing for long periods of time
  • Bending, pulling, twisting, squatting and pushing
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required
  • Use of long sleeves and appropriate headgear is recommended
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
